East Midlands and North West Mensa join forces on the late May bank holiday, Monday 30th May, to bring you a Grand Day Out in the beautiful Peak District.

A guided tour of limestone caverns with natural crystal sculptures, cascading water, stalactite and stalagmite formations. Please wear sensible footwear and clothes suitable for the constant 7 C temperatures. Meet at visitor centre entrance by 10.00am in order to take our first pre-booked tour of the day and avoid the queues later. Follow brown signs to Green Lane, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 9DH. Car park is £1 for 4 hours.

Take the 20 minute stroll uphill from Poole's Cavern through Buxton Country Park to Solomon's Temple. Climb 22 steps up this tower for spectacular views over the Peak District. Bring your own picnic and a silly hat and we'll then have a 'Mad Hatters Picnic' on the grass below the tower. There's a free non-alcoholic cocktail for everyone who advises attendance in advance!

After a 15 minute drive we have a visit to this otter, owl and wildlife park who focus on conservation. Follow brown signs to Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak, Derbyshire, SK23 0QS.
